Dear all,
It was a real pleasure to meet so many parents at the Meet the Teacher event.
Many parents commented so positively about how well their children had settled into their new classes and how they are developing positive relationships with staff and friends in classes. We are glad that they made such a great start to their learning journey in 2022-23.
On Tuesday, we shared with you how we will continue to build on the school's strong foundations, continue to embed new initiatives and bring positive change in areas that require our attention. Our journey of improvement continues and I would like to thank you all for your positive support and encouragement for all the hardworking and dedicated staff at JCSRS.
You can view the Meet the Teacher presentation here and over the coming months, we will keep updating you via newsletters, Principal Meet Ups and other school events on the steps that we are taking to ensure Everyone is Happy, Engaged and Learning.
As we look forward to families being able to travel more freely I would like to remind parents to inform the school if parents are out of Hong Kong. The name of an adult acting ‘in loco parentis’ should be given to the school in writing in advance.
Please read on to find out more about the Splice the Mainbrace event on the 15th of September.
I am looking forward to the future and us meeting in person on a more regular basis.
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival,
Anna

Feedback is one of the most powerful tools to improve learning.
Feedback has been shown to be one of the most powerful tools to improve learning. As parents and teachers, we give feedback all the time to others to support learning and to promote changes in behaviour or ensure progress towards a desired outcome.
The JCSRS feedback framework is designed to provide consistent written and verbal feedback on students' achievement, engagement and level of support to access learning.
Students’ IEPs are evaluated using this framework and teachers comment on students' engagement within different subjects in Mid-Year and End of the Year reports. In class, teachers give daily written and verbal feedback on learning to all students. Parents can see written feedback shared with students and parents on Seesaw. Click on the little hat at the bottom of a Seesaw entry to see the teacher's judgement on the student’s level of achievement and engagement within the assessed activity.
As a "newcomer" to Hong Kong, I have been intrigued and fascinated by the culture and myths surrounding this weekend's Mid Autumn Lantern Festival.
Sapphire Class have taken an initiative to explore and investigate this celebration that comes with the most delicious accompaniments… mooncakes. I thank them for sharing their enthusiasm for everything "Mid Autumn".
We created a booklet "What to expect during The Mid Autumn Festival". This included how Chang’e and the Jade Bunny landed on the moon (long before Neil or Buzz), lion and dragon dances, lantern making and family gatherings.
In the true spirit of multicultural diversity and education, we gifted our book to the Principal. May it grace Anna's library with pride of place.
Happy Mid Autumn Festival to all our JCSRS friends.

Splice the Mainbrace: Thursday 15th September 2022, 6.30 pm at Museum Cafe at Pier 8 (formerly Cafe 8)
The third Thursday of each month is Splice the Mainbrace at the Museum Cafe. For a naval officer, it was considered good form to reward the ship's company with a drink after hazardous or difficult tasks aboard the ship. Originally, it was an order for one of the most difficult emergency repair jobs aboard a sailing ship. It later became a euphemism for authorised celebratory drinking afterwards, and then the name of an order to grant the crew an extra ration of rum or grog.
The objective of Splice the Mainbrace is to provide a social outlet for Veterans and the Marine Community while raising awareness and providing additional employment opportunities for the Hong Kong Special Needs Community.
The mission of the Nesbitt Centre, a non-profit organisation, is to empower adults with special needs. Its attractive Museum Cafe, located at Central Pier 8 above the Hong Kong Maritime Museum, provides the perfect location for this event to promote the Nesbitt Centre and its mission to empower the special needs adult community.
The Special Needs Network Hong Kong (SNNHK) with the Talos Foundation and Jockey Club Sarah Roe School warmly invite you to Splice the Mainbrace. In anticipation of a large crowd, the Jockey Club Sarah Roe School alumni and students will provide additional servers and staff to augment Museum Cafe's existing staff.
So please come and join us to Splice the Mainbrace on Thursday 15th September at 6.30 pm at Museum Cafe. All welcome.

The updated vaccine pass will take effect from:
1st October 2022 for students to be able to participate in after-school and mask-off activities
1st November 2022 to be able to relax lunchtime arrangements (eating in class), EDB requires a 90% vaccination rate for the whole school
How can parents support the school?
