Dear all,
We had another busy and productive two weeks of school.
Last Friday, we had five ESF Board members visit JCSRS as part of a three-school tour of the campus. Our student council members greeted them on arrival and were exceptional ambassadors for the school. This was a great opportunity for us to highlight highly personalised learning for all students that is skilfully planned and executed by our staff.
Our first-ever JCSRS Careers Day was organised by the Post-16 team and attended by our vocational partners and ESF team. We are very proud of our students who are embarking on the journey of choosing and affirming their vocational pathways.
This week, our CEO Belinda Greer was greeted with great enthusiasm by our students who were keen to share with her what they were learning this week. Fist bump greeting in Pearl class, PE obstacle course with Emerald, learning sign language in Sapphire and learning about options for vocational learning are just a few of the things we saw during our visits to classes.
On Thursday we celebrated World Teachers' Day. One of the great strengths of JCSRS is the way that all staff across the school work together, each team focused on what they need to do to enable the school to work so effectively.
Our teaching staff are focused primarily on teaching and learning across the school; our therapy team supports learning in class through therapeutic interventions; and our superb support staff keep all the key aspects of school life going, whether that is related to finance, site management, buses, IT or HR. Likewise, our senior leaders focus on their important responsibilities in strategically leading the school and the foundation. Everyone working at JCSRS and the staff from ESF supporting our school are all teachers to our students in so many different ways.
I want to thank all JCSRS staff and ESF colleagues for their outstanding work and dedication to our students.
Please read on to find out more about past and upcoming events. I am looking forward to seeing parents joining our future events and celebrating students’ achievements with our staff in person.
Kind regards,
Anna
Save the date: 2nd November 2022 for the JCSRS Walkathon
We are delighted to share that families are welcome to join us at the Perth Street Sports Ground to attend this whole school event on Wednesday, 2nd November from 10.15 to 11 am.
All attendees are required to complete health and safety protocols before entering the site.
For eligible students meeting Vaccine Pass requirements, this will include completing a form which will be sent home next week (this form will also cover Sports Day attendance).
Family members will require a blue QR code Vaccine Pass to enter the sports ground and evidence of a negative RAT result to share with the JCSRS team.
This event is sponsored by our JCSRS Student Council who are leading the direction of the fundraising. Proceeds raised from this event will support our continued work with ImpactHK.
This week we hosted our first JCSRS Careers day for our post-16 students. We welcomed and shared information from four partner companies which included East Hotel, Burberry, Manulife and Lohas Garden.
The students have been learning about different types of jobs and their individual strengths and interests whilst increasing their knowledge around the skills different industries might be looking for in their employees. They are working on submitting their preferences based on their career profiles. It’s an exciting time for Ruby and Jade classes as they prepare and strengthen their expertise in vocational learning.
Chung Yeung Festival 4 October and Teacher Appreciation Day 5 October
We have so many teachers in our lives. Those that carry the title of Educator and Teacher, others called Mummy or helper, friend or professional. Our students often make the best teachers themselves, for they teach us honesty, resilience, and kindness.
What we do know is that our students and children look and listen; they copy and learn; so “teacher mode” is always active every hour of every day.
Sapphire class used the two special days this week to let the ladies in the front office know how much we appreciate them. We made a big bouquet of chrysanthemums (the flower of Chung Yeung) to say a big thank you for all they do. They teach us diligence, organisation and positivity. They are at the core of the smooth running of the school.
It was great to see the families and staff who attended the recent combined Splice the Mainbrace and Special Needs Network Hong Kong (SNNHK) event at the Nesbitt Centre’s Cafe 8. The diligent work of our JCSRS students and alumni ensured that nobody was left standing with an empty glass as the staff refined their hospitality skills.
The next event is on 20th October from 6.30 pm. All welcome.
