Dear all,
Today, four students and their parents attended the Transition Day at JCSRS. They received a warm welcome from our staff and students, providing them with a very positive experience. We hope that the New Family Welcome Session has provided them with information to support their children’s transition to JCSRS. I would like to thank our staff for their support and our PTA Chair, Megan McCoy, for joining us to welcome new families.
There is a real buzz at school with students finding out who will be teaching them next year and which friends will be staying or moving to different classes. Our staff are on hand to answer any questions from students and to support those who may find changes and transitions difficult. Over the next few weeks, staff and students will engage in a series of planned events to support in-school transition. On Friday, the 16th of June, we will have a class swap day, and all students and staff will go to their new classes.
As I am writing this newsletter, I am listening to our two graduates, Sze Yan and Paulo rehearsing for their musical performances during the graduation ceremony on the 9th of June. This reminds us that this time of the year is the time for welcoming new students and saying farewell to those that are ready to start a new life chapter.
I want to finish by saying that I am very proud of our students that will be representing our school during the ESF Esports Tournament this Saturday and those that created their artwork for the ESF Art Exhibition. I want to thank our staff that supported students in preparations for both of the events for their guidance and encouragement. Please read on to find out more.
Please remember to check out our Facebook page for updates from the school and our partners.
Warm regards,
Anna
Join the virtual audience for ESF’s largest inter-school Esports Tournament
We are pleased to share the exciting news that JCSRS is taking part in ESF's largest inter‑school Esports Tournament on Saturday, 3 June. This incredible event will see student teams from across 18 of our primary and secondary schools come together to demonstrate their skills using this year’s chosen computer game - Minecraft. Minecraft was selected by our teachers and students, who are big fans of the game, which encourages players to collaborate creatively and problem-solve while tackling building challenges and immersing themselves in imaginative adventure-style puzzles.
JCSRS will be represented by three secondary students from Ruby and Silver classes. The tournament will be live-streamed on the ESF Facebook page so please join us in watching and supporting our talented students with encouraging comments and Likes.
Join us in celebrating student creativity at our upcoming ESF Art Exhibition 2023
Beautiful sunrises, imaginative self-portraits and a six-metre-long rainbow-bright collage - these are just some of the amazing student creations featured in our upcoming ESF Art Exhibition 2023, which takes place at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre from June 7 - 11. Across ESF, our students have been truly inspired by this year’s art theme, which is Reimagining: New Beginnings.
In response to this thought-provoking topic, our talented children have created an outstanding collection of artworks spanning painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
Please do join us for this wonderful celebration of creativity. The venue address is Exhibition Gallery, Level 4, Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. The exhibition runs from 7 until 11 June (6 - 8 pm on 7 June, 9 am - 8 pm on 8 - 10 June and 9 am - 6 pm on 11 June).
JCSRS students had a great time creating their art pieces and were able to experience various sensory elements through the materials they used. Each student-artist dedicated several sessions to completing their work. If you are interested in seeing their artwork, please feel free to drop by the art exhibition.

Let’s support Hong Kong’s urgent appeal for blood donations
Hong Kong’s blood supplies are at extremely low levels, particularly for blood types A, B and O-negative. These shortages put lives at risk, and I know many of us will want to take action and help those in need by giving blood.
Some good news is that more of us are now eligible to donate blood. This is due to the lifting of restrictions that prevented some former residents of the UK, Ireland and France from giving blood in Hong Kong. The ban, which was due to concerns around the variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, ended in December.
While donations of blood types A, B and O-negative are the highest priority, donors of all blood types are urgently needed to replenish Hong Kong’s heavily depleted stocks. Our CEO Belinda Greer is a lifelong blood donor, and ESF continues to support the Red Cross’s appeal with blood drives happening across the organisation.
Those wanting to take immediate action in response to the city’s critical shortages can find information on how to donate on the Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion website.
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
