Dear all,
I hope this message finds you well. Despite the weather warnings and heavy rains, learning at school continued with many exciting activities over the past two weeks.
Last week, following on from the Earth Day assembly, all classes were writing their sustainability class pledge. From Eco Warriors, Recycling, and Outdoor Toys/Games - each class pledged their commitment to being more mindful and responsible towards the environment.
Yesterday, our primary students had a great field trip to the Pamela Peck Discovery Space. The students had an amazing time exploring their creativity and imagination in a safe and fun way.
I also want to once again highlight our NPDL project, Together We Can. It has been wonderful to see our students developing new friendships and relationships, especially between our older students taking on mentor and buddy roles with our primary-age students. This project is a great opportunity for our students to learn from one another and to work collaboratively. We are proud of the progress our students have made and look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have on building our community and strengthening students' sense of belonging.
Our Annual Review Meetings will be starting next week from the 8th until the 23rd of May. This is a great opportunity for us to celebrate our students' achievements and reflect on aspirations for their future. We highly encourage parents to attend these meetings as they provide valuable insights into your child's progress and help us work together to support their academic and personal growth.
Please mark your calendars for the Building Renovation information session on the 13th of May at 5.30 pm via Zoom. We are looking forward to seeing you there.
Thank you for your continued support of our school and our students. We are committed to providing a safe and enriching learning environment for all our students, and we hope to see more of you at our upcoming events.
Warm regards,
Anna
We held our last Total Communication parent training session of 23-24 on 2nd May 2024 at JCSRS. The session centred around the practice of engaging in shared reading and implementing language techniques while reading with your child. We also revisited the concept of Natural Language Acquisition, comparing ALP and GLP, and explored ways to assist these language learners through shared reading experiences.

Recently, the Educational Psychology Service delivered a webinar for parents on the topic of Sleep (Lights Out, Sweet Dreams: A Practical Webinar on Sleep for Parents and Caregivers).
As a follow-up to the webinar, they have created the following two documents, highlighting the importance of a full night's sleep for student well-being and cognitive development:

The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
