Dear all,
I hope that everyone is safe and that you have not been impacted too much by the weather. It is disappointing that we had to finish this week with online learning.
I am pleased to provide an update on our ongoing school renovations. The progress has been encouraging, and I appreciate your continued patience during this process. This week marked a milestone as our students participated in their first PE lessons in the school hall, which was great to see. Additionally, the soft play room is nearing completion, and we are awaiting new furniture for both the therapy room and the cafeteria.
A slight delay in the handover of the new entrance due to the typhoon and heavy rain will not affect our ability to resume the full-day timetable. Starting Monday next week, the school day will commence at 8.45 am and end at 2.45 pm. Your child's teachers have already shared the class timetables with you. For now, we will continue with the current drop-off and pick-up arrangements. Students can still be dropped off through the side door and picked up in the playground at the end of the day. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Congratulations to the newly elected members of the School Council: Will Cheung, parent representative, and Andy Smith, teacher representative. I want to express my gratitude for their willingness to serve the school community in this important role. Thank you both for your dedication and commitment to making our school a better place for everyone.
I also want to take a moment to reflect on our recent Meet the Teacher event. We had great attendance, and teachers shared with me how positive and encouraging the conversations with parents were. I believe that fostering a strong partnership between home and school is essential for the success of our students, and I appreciate your engagement and support.
Thank you for all your continued support.
Warm regards,
Anna

"I started school in Singapore on 12/8/2024. It's been almost 3 or so weeks. I really love being at my new School. It's a three-storey building. I go for different subjects on different floors. My core subjects are Science / Maths. In Science, I'm learning about Electromagnetism and how magnets attract and repel. In Maths I learnt how to use the power function on the calculator and I was also taught a little bit about Indices which was quite complicated to understand after a certain point. I learnt 2 to the power 3 means 2x2x2=6 [sic]. I'm finding some things explained easily and some things not so easily explained.
"I really am missing all my friends and teachers back at Jockey Club Sarah Roe School and definitely want to keep in touch through email. I wish to come back sometime later and see them in the summer of 2025!
"I’ve been attending Raffles College of Higher Education for my Career Elective Studies which is Graphic Designing. I really enjoy it, it is very much like the Vocational learning I had with Manulife in Hong Kong.
"I wish all of you to have an amazing year ahead @ JCSRS!

Jade class has been working on budgeting. We have been going to the KGV Leo’s Cafe to purchase snacks and drinks during our break time.
Last week, we were also invited to visit a class to join their tutor time. The teacher and the students were very nice to us. We chatted and admired all the artefacts about Star Wars displayed in the classroom. It was a great experience to get to know and talk to the KGV senior students.
A massive well done to the new secondary students with their transition this year. They have displayed great flexibility in adapting to the new classroom and expectations. We look forward to seeing their learning journey progress further this year.
Also, a big thank you to the other students in Sapphire for being welcoming and role models for secondary school.
World PT Day takes place every year on 8 September. This World PT Day, we recognise the vital role of physiotherapists in enhancing the lives of our students.
PTs aim to promote mobility, strength, and independence, empowering our children to be the best they can be. Let’s celebrate their dedication and the positive impact they have on our community!
To foster the spirit of the Olympic Games, our school has introduced the JCSRS Gym Challenge, which encourages students to embrace teamwork, perseverance, and healthy competition.
Students will get more active to improve their fitness and health. They can inspire each other and keep the Olympic spirit alive in our school community!
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
