Dear all,
I am excited to share that our school's first assembly of the academic year was held on Tuesday, 17th September, to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival in our newly renovated hall. During the assembly, our NPDL class buddies took centre stage to share their pledges for strengthening class connections and fostering a sense of community within our school. The new entrance to the hall and the ambience created by the decorations added to the excitement as we gathered together.
We are thrilled to see the enhanced learning spaces. A favourite space for our students and staff is the new Cafeteria, which has quickly become a social hub of our community. It provides an enjoyable space for everyone to eat, learn and socialise. Additionally, the new Music and Drama Studio is being put to great use, from music and drama sessions to yoga classes. We hope we can start using the new entrance from early next week.
Save the date! We are in the process of planning a gala event to celebrate the renovation and opening of the new school entrance on the 14th of November from 4 pm onwards. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting event, and we hope to see all members of our school community come together to mark this special occasion.
We held the first PTTC meetings of the year for our new students. These meetings offer a valuable opportunity to engage with families, allowing our team to understand their aspirations and develop personalised goals for each new student. Establishing strong partnerships with families is crucial for the overall development of our students, and these meetings are a crucial step in that direction.
Looking ahead, our dedicated staff will be participating in the ESF-wide Professional Development Day over the upcoming weekends. This event will feature enriching workshops covering a diverse range of topics, including connection-centred learning, reframing behaviour, and the Early Years Conference. It's an exciting opportunity for our educators to enhance their skills and knowledge, ultimately enriching the learning experience for our students.
We are excited to invite parents to the upcoming PTA meeting on 25th September. This will be a wonderful opportunity for parents to socialise, interact with our staff, and explore the newly renovated spaces within the school. Your presence and participation are highly valued, and we are looking forward to seeing you there!
I am grateful for your ongoing support and collaboration as we embark on this new academic year. Together, we will continue to create a nurturing and empowering environment for our students to thrive.
Warm regards,
Anna
Diamond and Gold classes completed four bowling sessions at Kowloon Cricket Club as part of the Play, Recreation and Leisure curriculum. Each week, the students chose a bowling ball and rolled it down the bowling lane to hit the pins. The students encouraged and supported each other while they waited patiently for their turn. It was an engaging and exciting experience.
In preparation for Saturday’s ESF CPD day around Connection Centred Learning, JCSRS hosted the two presenters, Leonie Abbott and Kim Bence from Wesley College in Melbourne, along with our two SEN advisors from ESFC. Our guests were invited to join two circle times in Sapphire and Pearl class, connect with our post-16 vocational classes and see rebound therapy in action. Students also showcased their communication skills to engage with the visitors in sharing vocational experiences and the community connections we are making with this year's buddy classes.
Our visitors shared that the time spent in what they described as an exceptional school enabled them to really ‘feel’ our intentionality in creating positive conditions for our students to engage. They described our learning environment as a ‘culture of calm’ with deserving praise for the outstanding expertise and visible teamwork of our staff. Our students were a credit to themselves in their capacity to engage and share their learning. We couldn’t be happier. Our primary staff will attend a workshop with the team over the weekend to further strengthen our work around whole-school approaches to wellbeing.
As the first month of school settles in, we invite parents and staff to join us for the first PTA meeting on Wednesday, 25 September. Let's come together to create a supportive and thriving school community.
Enjoy refreshments from 4.30 to 5.30 pm, followed by the PTA meeting from 5.30 to 6.30 pm. We look forward to seeing you there!
We all agree that safeguarding our students at JCSRS, as well as KGV, is of the highest importance.
In order to ensure the safety of all students, we have established clear protocols for student drop-off and pick-up, as well as management of visitors on the school campus.
All JCSRS visitors must sign in at the school reception and wait for a staff member. They will receive a yellow visitor's badge that they must wear at all times. Visitors are not permitted to walk around the campus or school unsupervised.
In the case of volunteers supporting school trips, we ask that they arrive at school only for the time of the trip. If they have to wait, it will be kept to a minimum, and we will direct them to a suitable area.
We kindly ask that all adults who come to pick up and drop off students wait in our school playground and do not stay on the campus longer than necessary to drop off and pick up their child. As KGV school hours are different from JCSRS, we cannot allow adults to wait on the campus unsupervised, and it is not safe for unsupervised and unvetted adults to be walking around the campus.
It is also important to note that some visitors have gone through the ESF vetting process, which includes scrutiny of their background, police check and sexual conviction check. Visitors who have completed those checks are given a green coloured visitor badge, and they do not have to be supervised at all times.
It is crucial for us to maintain this protocol to safeguard students and ensure the security of our school environment. The ESF and JCSRS protocol on the management of visitors, volunteers, contractors, or external providers is aligned with the EDB guidance for all schools.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students.
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
