Dear all,
It's been wonderful to see our students, parents and staff using the new entrance. It enhances the overall look of our campus, and most importantly, it aligns with our vision for the school to be visible and accessible to everyone. We are excited to welcome our community through this new entrance and provide a more inclusive experience for all visitors to our school.
Our vision is to create learning spaces that reflect our collective aspirations for our students to be the best they can be: the best environment for meeting the needs of our students and supporting their engagement and success in learning. We are very proud of our progress in renovating our school, as this is what our students deserve. We want to share and celebrate our achievements with you and the wider community. Please save the date (14th of November) and watch for the invitation to the JCSRS event "Shaping Our Vision: One Space at a Time."
Over the past two weeks, we had the pleasure of hosting a diverse range of visitors at our school. We were delighted to welcome our School Council and the dedicated parents who attended the PTA Committee meeting. The engagement of parents is crucial in supporting the delivery of our school's vision, and we are grateful to parents who could attend the meeting for their involvement and support. However, we need more parents to be involved, so please contact our PTA Committee chair and join their next meeting.
This week, our senior and middle leaders are participating in the ESF Leadership Conference, a pivotal event dedicated to reflecting on our vision and amplifying the impact we aspire to have on our students and community. The conference provides a platform for us to engage in meaningful discussions, share ideas, and collaborate on strategies that will shape the future of our school where both students and the broader community can flourish.
Everything that we do is about students’ learning. Last Friday, we had the pleasure of enjoying an assembly prepared by the Jade class students. It was an entirely student-led experience, filled with enjoyable music and dancing performances. It was heartwarming to see our students showcase their skills, talents and creativity in such an engaging way.
As we approach the half-term break, we would like to extend our warmest wishes to everyone for a relaxing and enjoyable time off. It's a well-deserved break for our hardworking staff, and we hope that everyone can take this opportunity to recharge and spend quality time with their loved ones. We look forward to welcoming everyone back after the break.
Warm regards,
Anna
Emerald, Diamond, and Gold students had a wonderful experience at the Science Museum on Monday. They had the opportunity to engage with a wide range of interactive exhibits and captivating displays that brought scientific concepts to life. From exploring the dinosaur display to playing with the exhibits in the Children's Gallery, the students explored the surroundings and gallery together in a fun and joyful way!
Dear Families and Staff,
As we embrace the month of October, we are excited to celebrate Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month! This month is dedicated to promoting understanding and acceptance of communication methods that support individuals with speech and language challenges.
What is AAC?
AAC encompasses a variety of communication strategies and tools that help individuals express themselves. These can range from communication boards and sign languages to high-tech speech-generating devices. AAC is vital for empowering students to communicate in any way they can, allowing them to participate fully in classroom activities and social interactions.
Celebration Activities
Throughout October, our school will engage in various activities aimed at raising awareness and fostering a supportive community for AAC users. Here are some of the highlights:
Sing, Sign, Share assembly (4th October)
Holiday Challenge
Class Challenge
All classes will learn new signs and core words through songs and stories.
Staff Challenge
All school staff will be invited to take on a small challenge, including teaching a new sign, finding a word on AAC or sharing a skill with the team.
Get Involved!
We encourage all families to participate in these activities and to engage in conversations about the importance of AAC.
Conclusion
As we celebrate AAC Awareness Month, let us work together to create a more inclusive environment for all students. By raising awareness and understanding of AAC, we can empower our students to communicate effectively and confidently.
Thank you for your continued support!
On Friday, 27th September, the JCSRS therapy team welcomed a group of therapists from Watchdog Early Education Centre to our school. Their visit included time observing in the classrooms, student-led tours, and an information session.
It is always a pleasure to share our practices with the wider community. The Watchdog team provided positive feedback on the newly renovated therapy spaces as well as the visible student learning happening through the coordination of our therapists and teachers.
We hope to continue building partnerships with the wider community to share knowledge and learn from one another. Collaborating with external organisations helps us improve the services we provide to our students.
Dear All,
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all those who attended our recent PTA meeting on 25 September. We value your presence and contributions, and we hope you enjoyed the snacks and found the meeting informative.
Moving forward, we are looking for parents to join our PTA committee and for a committee member to represent the PTA on the School Council. Your help would be amazing for advocating for the interests of the students. If you are interested, please don’t hesitate to email jcsrs.pta@jcsrs.edu.hk.
It would be great to see you at our next meeting on 30 October at 5.30 pm at JCSRS.
Thank you again for your continued support.
Best regards,
Phil Smith, Acting Chair on behalf of PTA
We all agree that safeguarding our students at JCSRS, as well as KGV, is of the highest importance.
In order to ensure the safety of all students, we have established clear protocols for student drop-off and pick-up, as well as management of visitors on the school campus.
All JCSRS visitors must sign in at the school reception and wait for a staff member. They will receive a yellow visitor's badge that they must wear at all times. Visitors are not permitted to walk around the campus or school unsupervised.
In the case of volunteers supporting school trips, we ask that they arrive at school only for the time of the trip. If they have to wait, it will be kept to a minimum, and we will direct them to a suitable area.
We kindly ask that all adults who come to pick up and drop off students wait in our school playground and do not stay on the campus longer than necessary to drop off and pick up their child. As KGV school hours are different from JCSRS, we cannot allow adults to wait on the campus unsupervised, and it is not safe for unsupervised and unvetted adults to be walking around the campus.
It is also important to note that some visitors have gone through the ESF vetting process, which includes scrutiny of their background, police check and sexual conviction check. Visitors who have completed those checks are given a green coloured visitor badge, and they do not have to be supervised at all times.
It is crucial for us to maintain this protocol to safeguard students and ensure the security of our school environment. The ESF and JCSRS protocol on the management of visitors, volunteers, contractors, or external providers is aligned with the EDB guidance for all schools.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping to maintain a safe and secure environment for all students.
