Dear all,
There has been so much happening in our school community lately, and I am excited to share some highlights with you.
First and foremost, I would like to remind everyone about our upcoming event, "JCSRS Vision in Action - One Space at a Time," scheduled for 14 November at 4.30 pm. This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community to celebrate our achievements and the progress we have made in creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. I look forward to seeing our parents and students at this event!
Last week, we had the pleasure of working with a talented photographer who captured our students actively engaged in their learning. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm and creativity shine through in the photos, and we can’t wait to display new photos around the school. This week, the filming crew interviewed our students and filmed in classrooms to create a promotional video that will be shared during our event. We are excited to showcase our students' views on the school, their talents, and the engaging learning they experience at our school. It was also wonderful to see how confident our students were in front of the camera.
I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to our dedicated staff for their hard work and preparation for the upcoming event. Their commitment to ensuring a successful and memorable occasion for our community is truly commendable.
In addition to our preparations, I am thrilled to share that our primary students had a fantastic time practising their social and communication skills during our Halloween trick-or-treating activities. It was a joy to see them engage with one another and enjoy the festive spirit.
Today, we also celebrated Diwali with a vibrant and colourful assembly that filled our school with joy and cultural appreciation. Students enthusiastically participated, listening to a story read by Krishika, one of our parents, and lighting diyas. We also enjoyed a dance by our student Krisha. The celebration was a wonderful reminder of the diverse backgrounds that enrich our school community.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school. I look forward to seeing many of you at the "Vision in Action" event on 14 November.
Warm regards,
Anna
Our students were super excited to celebrate Halloween on Wednesday, 30th October.
They arrived in costume and were ready for trick-or-treating activities. Following a map, the students visited Anna, Belinda, the Therapy team, Silver, and Sapphire classes to collect their treats. It was a fun and engaging morning.
School-based Occupational Therapy (OT) practitioners specialise in enhancing the function and engagement of all children in their daily routines, thereby supporting their participation in school activities. Key components of OT practice include addressing activities of daily living, rest and sleep, play, education, and social development. In celebration of World Occupational Therapy Day this year, we are excited to highlight several key areas of our services to share with the school community.
In JCSRS, student engagement is achieved through understanding and supporting their sensory processing needs, physical development, cognitive awareness, and communication styles. We honour students’ differences and preferences by scaffolding their learning experiences. OT practitioners employ reflective practices and utilise research evidence in assessing and monitoring outcomes. Examples of our evidence-based practices include the Handwriting Without Tears program, Ayres Sensory Integration, and Neurodevelopmental Treatment programs. These are applied in various sensory-based interventions such as Sensory Circuits, the Wilbarger Brushing Protocol, Sensory Diets, and the Therapeutic Listening program.
In our independent life skills and vocational learning pathways, we are dedicated to providing comprehensive support for secondary students. This support encompasses the entire process, beginning with personalised curriculum planning tailored to meet each student's unique needs and goals. We then guide students through the execution of various activities, ensuring they gain practical experience and confidence in applying their skills in real-world settings.
Partnering with parents and caregivers is a crucial aspect of our work. We aim to offer more parent training and sharing sessions in the near future. We encourage parents to reach out as we look forward to more opportunities to connect with and support your child. Raising a child is a lifelong journey, and we are grateful to be a part of yours!
Our teachers and staff enjoyed a delightful treat last week to celebrate World Teachers' Day.
The delicious muffins, courtesy of the PTA, were a sweet recognition of the hard work and dedication our educators put in every day. At the same time, we are also grateful for our parents' open communication and cooperation, which helps us gather valuable feedback and enhance our collaborative environment.
A big thank you to the PTA and all our supportive parents!

The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
