Dear all,
I hope this message finds you well and in high spirits as we approach the Lunar New Year.
Last week, we all enjoyed an enjoyable trip to Inspiration Lake. The relaxing atmosphere provided a wonderful opportunity for students, parents, carers, and staff to unwind and have fun together. It was heartwarming to see everyone engaging in various activities and creating lasting memories.
Yesterday and today, our students had the pleasure of visiting the Flower Market. This trip allowed them to immerse themselves in the excitement of New Year preparations while also practising their shopping skills. For some of our post-16 students, it was an excellent opportunity to travel by public transport, further enhancing their independence and confidence.
We concluded today with a very successful softball team practice in preparation for the upcoming competition. The dedication and teamwork displayed by our students were truly commendable, and we look forward to cheering them on in their future games.
As we celebrate the Year of the Snake, I would like to extend my warmest wishes to everyone for a Happy Lunar New Year. May this year bring you prosperity, good health, and happiness. Kung Hei Fat Choi!
Warm regards,
Anna
On Monday, 13th January, staff, students, parents and volunteers loaded onto coaches and set off to Inspiration Lake for our annual whole-school picnic. The date had been moved from a rainy day in November, and we were all so pleased that the weather was perfect with bright blue skies. Students explored the beautiful lake area and played in the playground. A few brave souls even tested out the chilly water fountains!
We would like to extend a huge thank you to all the volunteers who came to enjoy a cool, sunny day with us and help to build our community.
As we get ready to embrace the lively celebrations of Chinese New Year, we are thrilled to share the variety of engaging activities our students participated in to explore and appreciate this vibrant cultural event!
Students from the Speech and Language program at HKU organised and executed a series of activities for our secondary and Diamond class students. They enjoyed competitive bingo games, winning prizes themed around the Year of the Snake, learned about the Chinese zodiac, and expressed their creativity through themed crafts.
Emerald, Pearl, and Gold classes took part in a sensory experience that included activities reflecting the elements of Chinese New Year. Students engaged with various textures and scents associated with the festivities, stimulating their senses. Musical games and a scavenger hunt added an exciting conclusion to the celebrations.
Through our inclusive festivities, we aimed to cultivate cultural understanding, respect, and appreciation among our students. Chinese New Year offered a valuable opportunity for everyone to learn about and embrace the customs and traditions of our local culture.
Best regards,
The JCSRS Therapy Team
The primary students have had an engaging and busy start to Term 2. Gold and Diamond classes are learning about the human body and its different functions, such as the respiratory system. They made a model of the lungs using straws and small plastic bags. Emerald class is investigating the amazing life cycle of plants and learning all about taking care of them. They planted seeds and are watering them so they grow into plants. Pearl class is studying the book, The Tiny Seed, while learning about the outdoors using their five senses. They made prints about the story by dipping and pressing items into paint.
Together, the students participated in Chinese New Year activities, exploring sensory play and team games, such as Musical Chairs. They had a morning adventure at the Flower Market, where they chose special flowers and collaboratively played with peers on the playground. We wish the students a Happy Chinese New Year holiday break!
