Dear all,
Welcome back to school after a joyful and rejuvenating Lunar New Year break! I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends, and I would like to extend my warmest wishes for the Year of the Snake. May this year bring you good health, happiness, and prosperity. Kung Hei Fat Choi!
This week has been a particularly special one for our ESF community. On Monday, we made history as 2,700 ESF staff members gathered under one roof for the first time since ESF's founding in 1967. It was an incredible moment to be part of, and I felt immense pride as we came together to reflect on our shared mission and vision for the future.
I am especially proud of our secondary students, who arrived early in the morning to work alongside ESF staff, putting their vocational training into practice. Their professional conduct and dedication made us all proud as they demonstrated the real-world application of their skills.
In her opening address, our CEO, Belinda Greer, reflected on ESF's proud history, emphasising that our success is built on the dedication and commitment of every staff member. She spoke about ESF's three key priority areas:
Belonging: Creating an environment where everyone feels valued for who they are.
Engagement: Ensuring meaningful work through trust and purpose.
Personalisation: Supporting staff and students through tailored learning experiences.
I was honoured to share the stage with experienced, passionate colleagues — and students, including JCSRS alumna Jessica Hudson. Together, we explored how personalisation can empower our students to be the best they can be, a mission that lies at the heart of everything we do. The importance of tailoring learning experiences to meet the unique needs, interests, and strengths of each student resonated deeply with me, and I know it is something we already strive for every day at JCSRS.
Back at school, we have hit the ground running. Today, we enjoyed a delightful Diamond class assembly, followed by a vibrant Lunar New Year performance by our secondary students. It was a joy to see our students showcasing their talents and celebrating the festive spirit together.
As we move forward into this new term, I am excited about the opportunities ahead. Let's continue to work together to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student feels valued, engaged, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Thank you for your continued support, and here's to a successful and fulfilling term ahead!
Warm regards,
Anna
Get ready to spread the love at our upcoming Valentine’s Disco on Tuesday, 13th February, starting at 1.30 pm! To celebrate, it will be a non-uniform day, and students are encouraged to wear something red to join in the fun.
Please note that this is a student-only event.
A big thank you to our wonderful PTA for providing refreshments – we couldn’t do it without you! ❤️
On Thursday, our primary classes and Emerald students visited the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to enjoy a live performance of ‘The Way Back Home’. The venue was filled with eager schoolchildren, and the story was brought to life with exciting visuals and songs.
The play follows the tale of a boy who crash-lands on the moon and finds he is not alone. Working together, the friends finally find their way back home.
Greetings from Noah Dolsma in his new school in the Netherlands.
The school is similar to JCSRS with a primary downstairs and a secondary upstairs. There is a large school gym but no swimming pool. It also includes separate rooms with a full-size kitchen, DIY/technical/crafts room, and household room where students focus on self-care skills. They have many internships at companies in the area for the older kids.
It’s great to see Noah settling into his new school life.
Today we have performed at the assembly. The performance showcased how young people celebrate Chinese New Year with dancing and singing in colourful festive costumes. There were 5 girls and 6 boys from the secondary in the performance. The girls did a dance with a beautiful fan dance. We performed a sword dance in the middle followed by a lion dance. Joshua was the lion and Aryan was the lion’s tail and I led the lion as a monk. The whole performance showed how energetic young people were during Chinese New Year. The show ended with us giving laisees with blessings to the audience. We were very happy and very proud of our performance. Happy New Year and Kung Hei Fat Choy to you all!
Performers:

Many thanks to the PTA for sending in a cake for our January and February birthday celebrants!
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
