Dear all,
Today was an important event where we welcomed fourteen new families to our JCSRS community. This vital transition process has included visits to students' current schools/kindergartens, tours of JCSRS, meeting our staff, and today's New Families Induction session - all designed to ensure our new students settle well, build strong relationships, and develop a true sense of belonging from day one. My sincere thanks to all teachers and therapists who make this enhanced transition process so successful.
Next week, we will share information about the 2025-26 class arrangements. These carefully considered plans reflect staff and parent input on optimal student support. We know that maintaining key staff relationships and considering both existing and emerging peer connections support students’ successful start to the new school year.
I also want to let you know about our decision to change the class names to align with JCSRS curriculum pathways. Next year, we will have classes of Foundation, Builders, Explorers, Life Skills and Vocational learners.
We're thrilled to formally announce the arrival of our new school bus! It was funded through a successful application to the Lotteries Fund. The bus is already in use this month, and once we recruit a driver and escort, it will become our seventh transport route, further improving our service to families.
Please read on to find out more about the performance by Treasure Chest Theatre, a parent workshop, our student successes and upcoming initiatives.
As always, thank you for being part of our JCSRS community.
Warm regards,
Anna
We are thrilled to share an exciting update from our recent JCSRS Gym Challenge – a 10-minute running event that tested strength, endurance, and determination among our students!
Students ran continuously for ten minutes, with the total distance covered recorded to celebrate their effort and progress.
Congratulations to our top runners:
Michael in first place, covering an impressive distance that showcased incredible stamina and focus!
Jio in second place, demonstrating great determination and strength throughout the challenge.
Karis in third place – a fantastic effort with consistent running and solid technique.
A special shoutout to Isabella, Sethika, Mexx, Boris, Edward, Isabel, Alex B, Jonathan K, Victoria, Anneliese, Hugo, Nubaid and Andrew for their enthusiastic and active participation.
The talented performers from Treasure Chest Theatre came to perform “Jade Rabbit” for students and families yesterday. The JCSRS PTA kindly sponsored this wonderful event, which allowed families to visit the school and enjoy a sensory-friendly theatre performance within the comfort of familiar surroundings.
Students loved the gentle music, interactive elements, physical storytelling, and the puppet meet-and-greet at the end! The show perfectly embodies our ethos of Total Communication, showing that we communicate many complex ideas and feelings without spoken words.
We are excited to invite you to a special Reflex Integration Workshop designed to help you support your child’s development, especially those with coordination challenges.
Why reflex integration?
Some of our students experience difficulties in coordination due to retained primitive reflexes – automatic movements that should be naturally integrated during early development. When these reflexes persist, they can impact balance, motor skills, and learning.

Treasure Chest Theatre and neurodiversity workshop
We had a wonderful theatre experience yesterday! The performance of Jade Rabbit by the Treasure Chest Theatre captivated everyone with its enchanting puppetry, mesmerising lighting, and expressive Erhu music. It was a rich sensory journey that sparked imagination and joy among our students and families.
A special thank you to Karen for her insightful talk on neurodiversity and the school's approach. Together, we continue to support our children's growth on a shared path.
