Dear all,
This week, we honoured the remarkable journey of our JCSRS Class of 2025 – a group who have embodied our six global competencies in everything from their creative arts performances and sports achievements to collaborative projects and leadership within our school community. Their growth in character, communication, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and citizenship has been extraordinary to witness. As they step forward into new adventures, these competencies will continue to serve as their foundation, just as the dedication of their teachers and all staff who have supported them, some throughout their entire – 12 years for some – journey, has served as their compass.
The graduation ceremony was a beautiful celebration of how far each student has come, filled with touching moments that revealed their unique strengths and the bonds formed at JCSRS. To our graduates: wherever life takes you next, carry forward the resilience, curiosity and compassion you've cultivated here. You take with you not just our pride, but our continued belief in all you will achieve.
Beyond graduation, the last two weeks have been filled with students’ achievements. Our students impressed us all at the Aquathon, demonstrating both skill and perseverance, while others celebrated earning their AQA accreditations, a testament to their hard work and dedication. The chance to take part in the Choir Jam session at KJS filled our students with joy and gave them another chance to showcase their musical talents. And let’s not forget the Evening of Dance.
With just two weeks of school remaining, we're committed to making every day count – celebrating each student's progress, strengthening connections, and creating lasting memories before the summer break.
I invite you to read on in this newsletter to discover more about these accomplishments and others, each one a reminder of JCSRS's vision being put into action every day at JCSRS.
Warm regards,
Anna
"To watch us dance is to hear our hearts speak"
Our talented JCSRS students brought poetry in motion to this year's ESF Evening of Dance, where schools were challenged to explore the theme "Why do we dance?" through original performances.
Their piece, 'Seasons of Love', transformed the stage into a living journey through nature's cycles – from winter's quiet stillness to spring's joyful blooms, summer's vibrant energy, and autumn's reflective grace. Through every movement, our dancers revealed how dance speaks the language of the heart, expressing warmth, playfulness, and deep emotion. A standing ovation to all performers and staff who made this magical dance possible!
This week, we honoured the incredible dedication of our students' family helpers during Carers Week with a heartfelt afternoon tea. Students from Jade and Ruby classes took pride in serving refreshments, while others crafted personalised thank-you cards – each one a small token of our immense gratitude.
These special aunties form the quiet backbone of our community. Their unwavering care and commitment empower our students to thrive every day. A thousand thank-yous would never be enough, but we hope our tea-time celebration conveyed just how deeply we value your partnership.
Pearl, Emerald, Gold and Diamond students have had weekly sessions with therapy dogs from Rise Wise this term. Therapy dogs help create calm and nurturing experiences for our students to work on social engagement and interaction.
These sessions have seen students learning the basics of meeting and greeting animals while fostering social and emotional development. It has been wonderful to see the reluctant students become more confident around these new situations.
This year, JCSRS began a new partnership with AQA Education to support and accredit our curriculum. AQA is a well-known UK awarding body, and our connection with them helps to ensure that students are receiving high-quality and relevant education.
From the start of this academic year, students in Year 9 and above have been working towards Unit Awards across a range of subjects. The Unit Award Scheme allows all learners to have their achievements formally recognised. Students build a portfolio of Unit Awards to represent their learning journey from Y9 until graduation, reflecting the breadth of our bespoke curriculum.
So far this year, 30 of our students have successfully completed 71 AQA Unit Awards. There are thousands of Unit Awards available, offering high levels of personalisation for our students. These awards are also widely used in other ESF schools as an alternative pathway to the IB diploma.
Please find out more about AQA Unit Awards here.
On 4 June, a group of our students were invited to attend the ESF Primary Choir Jam at Kowloon Junior School.
“The choir jam was amazing. We liked it because it was our old school. Students had beautiful voices and the actions were fun. We liked listening to the KJS choir. The games we played were fantastic. We loved visiting KJS Choir Jam. We hope we can go back next year!” – by Terence and Krisha
PTA Social Evening
The JCSRS community came together in high spirits at our annual PTA Social Evening, held at Sugar at the EAST Hong Kong hotel – a valued school partner that has provided meaningful work experience opportunities for our students.
With great attendance from parents and staff, the evening was the perfect way to reflect on this year’s successes and kick off summer with delicious food, lively conversations, and plenty of laughter.
A special thank you to our PTA for organising this wonderful event. Here’s to another year of partnership and celebration!
Graduation lunch
We extend our many thanks to the PTA also for sponsoring our staff to attend the Class of 2025 graduation lunch at the Hong Kong Football Club.
Our annual end-of-year water splash and fun event will be held on Wednesday, 25 June. There will be two sessions (primary and secondary) to enjoy some water games on the playground and maybe have a chance to splash the teachers!
Students may prefer to change into swim clothes with water shoes to enjoy the event. A change of clothes and a towel are essential.
As we come to the end of the academic year, please take a moment to check at home for JCSRS library or home reading books and return them to school. These can be identified with a label (usually on the top right corner of the front cover) and a ‘Jockey Club Sarah Roe’ barcode.
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
