Dear All,
What a week it's been! Despite the unexpected weather on our first day, nothing could dampen the excitement of our students returning to school today. Their priceless reactions to the newly renovated classrooms were a testament to the hard work that went into this project, and we couldn't be prouder of what we have collectively achieved. We hope you enjoy these before, during, and after photos of the renovation.
We want to extend a very warm welcome to our fourteen new students joining the JCSRS community! We are confident they will quickly feel at home and make many new friends.
We also have some new faces on our staff that we are excited to introduce:
Deborah Foster, Explorers Teacher
Kody Ding, Occupational Therapist
Charmaine Wong, Physiotherapist (covering Yannes's maternity leave)
Danny Yip, Bus Driver (a warm welcome back!)
Please also join us in congratulating Yannes on the safe arrival of her baby boy!
One of the major highlights this month was the ESF Chairman's Awards, where six of our graduates were recognised for their incredible achievements. We are immensely proud of them and know they are an inspiration to us all. Our graduates were celebrated for:
Jadon, The Chairman's Award for Leadership
Rowan, The Chairman's Award for Embodying the Spirit and Values of the School
Joshua, The Chairman's Award for Sporting Achievement
Boris, The Chairman's Award for Commitment and Contribution to Service
Larrisa, The Chairman's Award for Creativity
Jonathan, The Abraham Shek Award: The Chairman's Award for sustained drive and determination
Please mark your calendars for our Meet theTeacher and PTA AGM events on 2 September. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to see the renovated classrooms, connect with your child's teachers, meet other parents and get involved in the life of the school.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Let's work together to make this academic year a great success for our students.
Warm regards,
Anna
Understanding Children’s Rights and Responsibilities: An Interactive Learning Experience
On 25 June 2025, our secondary students and some Diamond class students attended a workshop, ‘Understanding Children’s Rights and Responsibilities’, organised by UnitedChild. It offered JCSRS students a fun and meaningful way to explore fundamental rights and their paired responsibilities. The workshop was split into two lively 20-minute sessions of about 16 students.
Throughout the session, students were introduced to three essential rights: the right to food and care, safety, and learning. Using large, colourful pictures and simple sentences, these concepts were made accessible and memorable.
The interactive approach continued with a variety of activities that encouraged engagement and movement. Students began with a feelings check-in to connect emotionally to the topic. They then matched rights with their corresponding responsibilities through a hands-on game by drawing lines on a whiteboard.
One of the highlights was the ‘Right or Not?’ movement game, where students actively decided between correct and incorrect scenarios, reinforcing their understanding in a playful way.
To wrap up, students created personalised ‘My Rights’ posters, choosing their favourite rights to colour and display, fostering ownership of the learning experience.
This session not only taught important concepts but also empowered students to appreciate their rights and understand their responsibilities in a supportive, interactive environment.
On Tuesday, 2 September at 4.30 pm, we will host our Meet the Teacher information session for parents.
‘Meet the Teacher’ is an event where you can meet your child's class teacher and therapists. Teachers will provide important information about the class, curriculum, and planned activities. You'll also have the opportunity to ask general questions. However, please note that teachers and therapists will not be able to address any questions about individual students, as those are best answered during Parent Teacher Therapist Conferences (PTTCs).
PTTCs for new students are planned for the 15th and 16th of September, and everyone else will be invited to PTTC meetings on the 3rd and 4th of November.
We look forward to connecting with you throughout the year.
We are excited to let you know that our PTA AGM will be held on Tuesday, 2 September at 5.30 pm. You are warmly invited to join us either in person or online, whichever is most convenient.
As part of this important event, we will also be opening nominations for the PTA Committee. It is a great way to get to know the school better and meet fellow parents in our community. More details will be shared next week, so please stay tuned via the ESF App and email.
Thank you for being such a valued part of our JCSRS family. We look forward to seeing many of you at the AGM!
