Dear All,
What a dynamic start to the new school year it has been! While our first two weeks were unexpectedly punctuated by weather disruptions, it has been wonderful to see our community adapt with such resilience and good spirit. Now that we are finally all together and settling into a steady rhythm, the energy in our school is truly positive and focused.
Last Friday, we held our whole-school ‘Welcome Back’ assembly, which was a truly heart-warming event. We took the opportunity to extend a very special JCSRS welcome to our new students and the newest members of our staff team.
A key part of our assembly was the formal sharing of our Student Code of Conduct. It was developed in close consultation with our brilliant Student Council last year, ensuring that the voices of our students are at the very heart of how we build a safe, positive, and respectful environment for everyone. This code is a testament to our shared commitment to making JCSRS a place where every individual feels safe, happy and ready to learn.
Speaking of our Student Council, I am delighted to announce our newly appointed council for this year! This dynamic group of student leaders will be guided and supported by our LS1 teacher, Kaleigh. Under her leadership, I am confident the council will continue to do incredible work in representing the student body and initiating positive change within our school. Please join me in congratulating them and wishing them well in their important roles.
A quick and important reminder for your diaries: we are very much looking forward to seeing many of you next Tuesday, 2 September, for our ‘Meet the Teacher’ at 4.30 pm and the PTA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 5.30 pm. This is a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s class team, see renovated classrooms, and hear about the exciting year ahead.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. I am filled with anticipation for the learning, growth, and achievements that lie ahead for our students this year.
Warm regards,
Anna
Builders 3 kicked off the school year with an exciting bowling activity at Kowloon Cricket Club, where students enjoyed learning the game and practising structured turn-taking. They happily took turns using light bowling balls and received support from adults, making the experience both fun and safe.
This activity is part of their Play, Recreation, and Leisure unit, helping expand their leisure skills and interest in ten-pin bowling.
We’re excited to announce the students who will be representing JCSRS on our Student Council this year! Please join us in congratulating Anya, Azeen, Jio, Jonathan, Nick, Saad, Shivansh and Terence. This dynamic team of leaders is ready to bring fresh ideas and a spirit of collaboration to our school community.
We can’t wait to see how their creativity and dedication will spark positive change, inspire their peers, and make this school year unforgettable. Stay tuned for exciting initiatives and events led by our 2025–26 Student Council!
The Department of Health would like to invite our students to participate in the Student Health Service (StdHS) and School Dental Care Service (SDCS) for the 2025–26 school year. The service period is from November 2025 to October 2026.
The StdHS is free of charge for eligible students, and the SDCS charges a nominal fee.
Primary students
An online enrolment programme for both services has been implemented this school year. Families of primary students will receive on 1 September an access link or QR code to fill in the Joint Enrolment Form for both services. Please submit the form between 1 and 14 September 2025.
Secondary students
In September, families of secondary students will receive two paper forms to fill in: an application form for the StdHS and one for the SDCS. Students who are under 18 years old on 1 September 2025 are eligible to join the SDCS for the service year 2025–26.
New protocols around guidelines, child protection and safeguarding for volunteers will be shared with relevant families next week. Volunteers include any family members who support JCSRS students accessing learning both on and off campus.
All volunteers are required to have read the ESF Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy Summary. Please share this document with family members for their reference. Any questions, please contact belinda.mclaughlin@jcsrs.edu.hk.
Our first staff meeting of the year focused on embracing a Total Communication approach to better support all learners.
During the session, staff practised using high-tech AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) alongside Makaton, enhancing their skills in inclusive communication methods. We also explored how to effectively link AAC use with the curriculum, ensuring that communication tools are seamlessly integrated into daily lessons to maximise student engagement and learning.
This collaborative start sets a strong foundation for a supportive and accessible school year ahead.
We would like to gently remind you that our PTA AGM will take place next Tuesday, 2 September at 5.30 pm, following the Meet the Teacher session. We warmly welcome all parents to join us in person or online.
During the meeting, we’ll be holding the election of PTA Committee members and presenting the PTA proposal for the year ahead. We truly appreciate your presence as we explore together how the PTA supports our students.
