Dear All,
With last week's weather and this week's public holiday, our routines have been quite disrupted! Despite these changes, I have been impressed by how our students have returned to school with positivity and focus, demonstrating great resilience and adaptability.
Today, we held a wonderfully engaging assembly led by our LS1 team to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. They taught us Makaton signs to sign along with a Mid-Autumn song, which was a fantastic addition linked to AAC Awareness Month. A special thank you also goes to our LS2 team for enhancing our ‘Welcome to Assembly’ song. This new addition is quickly becoming an integral part of our assembly routine, and we are continually working to improve it.
I am thrilled to share some exciting news as we look ahead: this year marks the 40th anniversary of our school! This is a significant milestone, and we are planning special events to commemorate this incredible journey. We want to celebrate 40 years of JCSRS while raising awareness and celebrating diversity within our HK community. We will have a special show showcasing 40 years of JCSRS history, and on 24 January, we will host a community-wide 40th Birthday Fun Day.
To make the JCSRS 40th Birthday Fun Day truly memorable for our students and the community, we will need your support! We will be looking for parents and staff to assist with organisation and volunteer on the day. Please keep an eye out in the coming weeks for more information from the school team and the PTA Committee on how you can get involved.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Mid-Autumn Festival and a relaxing, well-deserved mid-term break. I hope you have a wonderful time with family and friends.
Warm regards,
Anna
This year, students in the Vocational Class (V1) are supporting the Box of Hope initiative. This is linked to their work in RSE & Citizenship on ‘Helping Others’ as well as working on key skills linked to Vocational Education of planning, purchasing and organising.
We would like to invite our JCSRS families to also take part in this wonderful project by creating boxes to send to school.
How you can help
Making a box is easy! By following a few simple steps, you are well on your way to bringing a smile to a child’s face.
Find an empty shoe box
Decorate the outside of your box
Add in your gifts
Complete the Box of Hope Sticker (these will be sent out in students’ bags after the break)
Drop off the box at school by Wednesday, 5 November
You can choose to make a Box of Hope for a child or a teenager. Click on the links to see the list of required items.
Important: Please do not seal the box or wrap items individually. Our V1 students will be checking the boxes for quality control. You can secure your box with an elastic band.
Thank you for your involvement. We appreciate your partnership in supporting our AAC community.
Speech Therapy Team
In our recent Birthday Club for staff, our August and September celebrants shared their joy by preparing a delightful spread of snacks for everyone to enjoy. We’d like to express our sincere thanks to the PTA, who generously brought in fresh pastries to celebrate together and appreciate the incredible dedication of our teachers and staff. Your kindness and support make our school community special!
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
