Dear all,
Our hearts are heavy as we reflect on the devastating fire in Tai Po. This tragic event has deeply affected Hong Kong, and we know that members of our own community are feeling the weight of this loss.
Earlier today, JCSRS and the whole ESF community observed a moment of silence to honour the victims. This quiet reflection powerfully reaffirmed that our strength lies in standing together in times of sorrow, just as we do in times of celebration.
In this spirit of solidarity, we are focusing our efforts on providing tangible support.
This Friday, we will be joining an ESF-wide fundraising event. While full details are still being confirmed, we know that all funds raised will be directed to the government's Support Fund for Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po.
This commitment to community is a core part of our identity, as recently showcased during our 40th anniversary show. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already contributed through the sale of Christmas cards, through which we have raised $2,600.
We are acutely aware that the true scale of what has happened in Tai Po is not yet known. The emergency services will be continuing their work at the site of the fire for many weeks to come. It is right and proper that we are mindful of this. Events will still be happening in our schools, but we will be respectful of the continuing impact of the fire, and this will be reflected in the tone and nature of what we do.
During difficult times, the compassion and support we show one another define us. Thank you for being a community that cares so deeply.
Warm regards,
Anna
We have decided to postpone the whole-school picnic trip to Inspiration Lake until Thursday, 8 January. We recognise that this is a difficult time for many people in the wider Hong Kong community, and we wish to be respectful of people experiencing loss and uncertainty. The visit to Inspiration Lake is an important opportunity for us to come together as a community, but we also recognise that this is not the right moment for celebration.
Congratulations to our Vocational (V1) students, who recently completed their weeks-long Box of Hope project. Since the October break, the class has been learning about the charity and channelling their classroom skills into a meaningful community effort.
This project offered our students a meaningful, real-world application of their learning. Students put their Independence lessons into practice by shopping for items. They honed their literacy skills by writing detailed shopping lists and meticulously checking boxes. In the classroom, they took charge of organising, sorting, counting, and packing all the items. To add a personal touch, the students beautifully wrapped and decorated the boxes, writing heartfelt cards to go inside.
The V1 students handed over 42 boxes to the charity. These boxes will bring joy to children and teenagers in need, both in Hong Kong and around the world. Around half of the boxes were created and packed by V1 students, while the other half were donated by our JCSRS community. Our enormous gratitude goes out to all the families who donated. A huge "well done" to the dedicated students and staff of V1 for their hard work and kindness.
As part of our 40th anniversary celebrations, we hosted a JCSRS alumni event on 26 November and invited our graduates and their families back to the school for the day.
Our former students enjoyed watching the whole-school performance, a catered lunch provided by the ESFC, and catching up with old classmates and staff. They were impressed with our new classrooms and enjoyed being back at school.
It was great having the familiar faces back on campus and hearing all about their new pathways since graduation. The event was a memorable occasion for us all.
