Dear all,
What a full and vibrant week it has been at JCSRS – filled with meaningful conversations, joyful celebrations, and wonderful displays of student leadership.
This week, we held our Parent Teacher Therapist Conferences, and I was delighted to see such strong attendance from families across the school. This genuine partnership is a true reflection of our shared commitment to collaboration, joint planning, and collective accountability for each child's progress. Thank you for prioritising these important conversations.
In the spirit of connection, our Student Council led a wonderful Valentine's Disco that brought warmth and fun to our week. It was heartwarming to see our students dancing, laughing, and celebrating together. A big thank you to Kaleigh and the Student Council for organising such a joyful event.
We have also been immersed in the beauty of Lunar New Year celebrations. Yesterday, our students dazzled audiences at the ESF-wide Chinese New Year Gala with a stunning fan and umbrella dance titled "Enjoy Youthful Chinese New Year". Today, they treated our own school community to a repeat performance, filling our hall with colour, grace, and festive spirit.
The celebrations continued with a range of Lunar New Year activities thoughtfully prepared by our therapy team. From arts and crafts to storytelling and quizzes, every student had the opportunity to engage, learn, and enjoy.
We look forward to welcoming all students back on Monday, 23 February.
Wishing you and your families a joyful, restful, and prosperous break. May the Year of the Horse bring you health and happiness.
Warm regards,
Anna
A Vibrant Lunar New Year Celebration at JCSRS!
Our school was buzzing with energy and festive cheer as the JCSRS Therapy Team hosted spectacular Lunar New Year activities! Designed to be both therapeutic and inclusive, the event allowed students to explore the traditions of the Lunar New Year through a specialised, multi-sensory lens. Students moved through a variety of engaging stations tailored to support their development.
The Speech and Language team led immersive storytelling sessions and an LNY quiz, sparking great conversation and friendly competition. Primary students dived into LNY-themed sensory play with the STs, exploring textures and symbols associated with the festival.
Our Occupational Therapy team guided students in crafting beautiful lanterns and intricate horse collages, helping everyone refine their grasp and coordination while creating festive masterpieces.
In a delicious session with our Physical Therapy team, students worked on their functional motor skills by gathering "tang yuan" (sweet glutinous rice balls), represented by ping pong balls, into a big bowl through an obstacle course.
Students who participated in the ESF LNY celebrations took to the stage at JCSRS, performing their Chinese dance for the rest of the school to see. It was a proud moment to witness their hard work and artistry firsthand!
The festivities extended beyond our school as well, with some of our students enjoying a fantastic range of LNY activities with KGV this week, further broadening their cultural experiences alongside our partner school.
It was a wonderful week of "learning through doing", where our students strengthened their skills while celebrating the season. A huge thank you to our dedicated Therapy Team and our talented performers for making this celebration so accessible, meaningful, and fun! Happy Lunar New Year!
Thank you for coming to the Valentine's Disco. We had fun planning the disco. I liked making the poster on Canva and inviting my friends in other classes. The Student Council decorated the hall and made a Spotify playlist. We like helping everyone be friends at JCSRS.

JCSRS proudly supported the premiere of an animated short video directed by HK filmmaker Julia Bowers and the Talos Foundation. The Invisible Differences animation amplifies the voices of neurodivergent individuals in Hong Kong. A highlight of the film was the involvement of our very own student, Nicklaus, who showcased his excellent Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) skills.
Invisible Differences is a community-driven project and is fully funded through donations and sponsorship support. If you wish to contribute to the future development of this project and increase its visibility across Hong Kong, you can make an impact by donating via the QR code below.
Our recent community event, "My Child and the Law", was delivered by Hong Kong lawyers Azan Marwah and Jason Ko, who provided valuable information to our attendees on children’s rights in HK, and what to expect in the event a neurodiverse young person, under or above the age of 18, encounters the law due to an offence.
If you would like a copy of the slides shared at the event, please email office@jcsrs.edu.hk with the subject heading "My Child and the Law".
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
