Dear all,
It has been wonderful to welcome everyone back after the Lunar New Year break. Our students and staff have returned recharged and in great spirits, ready to embrace all that Term 2 has to offer.
Last week, we were delighted to host colleagues from Island School for an Impact Walk – a collegial partnership that provided an opportunity for professional dialogue and shared learning. During their visit, Island School staff conducted classroom observations and offered strong external validation of JCSRS's progress in fostering a culture of purposeful learning through educators’ collaboration. They observed a highly personalised, student-focused environment with clear evidence of our curriculum in action, high levels of student engagement, and meaningful progress being made. It is always affirming to have our work recognised by fellow educators, and we are grateful to the Island School team for their time and thoughtful insights.
The ESF Stakeholder Survey is closing on 13 March, and your participation is highly valued. This survey is a crucial tool for us to understand what we're doing well, how our community (parents, students, and staff) perceives the school, and, most importantly, where we need to focus our improvements. We take this feedback very seriously. The results are shared transparently with you, our School Council, and the ESF Board, directly shaping our future planning and priorities. If you haven't yet, please take a few moments to complete the survey. Your voice truly makes a difference.
Please read on to find out more about exciting learning, engaging activities and future events at JCSRS and in our community.
Thank you, as always, for your continued partnership and support.
Warm regards,
Anna
Over the past six weeks, our Builders Pathway students have been actively engaged in outdoor learning through our Planting Project.
The students explored where different plants grow, both above and below the ground, and discovered how insects play an important role in helping plants thrive. They enjoyed many hands-on experiences, like planting seeds, caring for the garden, and observing nature up close.
It’s been wonderful to see their curiosity blossom as they learn about the natural world and the connections between plants, insects, and our environment.
Our amazing Student Council has been championing kindness at JCSRS, inspiring peers to embrace our Code of Conduct in meaningful ways. This week, we celebrated "Choose Kind Words", and the response was outstanding.
Throughout the week, students who demonstrated kindness toward others earned a leaf for our Kindness Tree. Every act of kindness – big or small – was recognised and celebrated. At week's end, all the students' names who earned leaves were entered into a draw, and five lucky winners received prizes as a token of appreciation for spreading joy.
A big thank you to all students from the Student Council!
Congratulations to Mexx from Explorers class, who took part in the inaugural Charity Run held by Principal Chan Free Tutorial World on 1 March 2026 to celebrate its 15th anniversary. Mexx had a wonderful experience with his family and finished his 1 km run with ease.
Themed "Yes We Can Fly", the event invited McDull as the charity ambassador and attracted over 1,500 participants, creating a lively scene.
"We all belong here"
JCSRS will be celebrating neurodiversity during the week of 16 to 20 March 2026.
We are planning a series of activities to promote our theme "We all belong here". Students will learn about different ways people think, feel, learn, move, and speak through stories and classroom discussions.
Staff will engage in a tailored staff meeting to delve deeper into understanding our neurodivergent students and the ways we understand and support them to be the best they can be.
On Friday, 20 March, our F1 students, supported by the Student Council, will host a neurodiversity assembly. Parents are invited to attend a social afternoon tea from 1.30 pm in the cafeteria and to join students in the assembly at 2 pm. Students and staff will be invited to dress in rainbow colours on the day.
This monthly networking event, which aims to connect families, educators, and students, falls during Neurodiversity Week in March. Please consider coming along to support some JCSRS students who will be working at the event as servers. More information can be found on the Talos Foundation website.
The world is rich with diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
