Dear all,
As we move through these final weeks of the school year, I’ve been spending time in annual reviews, listening to our students tell us, in their own words, what they have enjoyed and achieved this year. Alongside them, parents and staff have reflected on the remarkable progress made from the very start of the year. These conversations are a powerful reminder of why we do what we do.
Across the school, there is a familiar energy that arrives at this time of year. The library shelves are being packed away, orders are being placed for new furniture and resources, and preparations for Phase 3 renovation – transformation of our art room, sensory room, and staff room – are underway. Some of the renovation work will begin as early as 30 May.
These visible signs of change are exciting, but they also signal that the year is drawing to a close. And with endings come emotions.
For many in our community – students, staff, and families –this season brings a mix of anticipation and anxiety. New classes, new teachers and new environments can feel both hopeful and overwhelming. Add to that the natural tiredness that comes with a full and busy year, and it’s no surprise that small worries can feel a little bigger, and everyday challenges can feel a little heavier.
This is exactly when our mission must guide us most clearly.
Everyone Happy – which may look different for each of us right now, and may require a little more patience, kind words, and understanding.
Everyone Engaged – even as routines shift and boxes pile up, we stay connected to what matters: relationships, communication, and shared purpose.
Everyone Learning – including learning how to navigate change, how to support one another, and how to hold steady when things may feel uncertain.
As we head into the final stretch of the year, let’s keep leaning into what makes JCSRS a school where everyone has a strong sense of belonging – our focus on empowering students to be the best that they can be.
Warm regards,
Anna
Learning from Leaders: This week's Code of Conduct focus
Our Student Council brought the Code of Conduct into action this week, visiting classrooms to role-play consent scenarios and lead engaging games around "Always Ask First". Students are connecting with the message through peer leaders, making the values of respectful communication feel relevant and real.
Our PTA-sponsored theatre event is always a truly special day on the calendar. We were treated to a visual and musical feast from Treasure Chest Theatre, showcasing their flagship show, The Trip. For many families, a visit to the theatre is impractical, so offering a relaxed, sensory-friendly show at school is a wonderfully enriching experience for all.
Our JCSRS Library is being packed up, ready for the exciting renovations to our first floor. Some initial work will begin in June, with the main transformation happening during the summer holidays.
What this means
The lending library is now closed until the new academic year. Students will no longer be able to take self-selected books. We will continue to change levelled readers for reading practice.
Action needed
Please return all JCSRS books to the school as soon as possible so they can be returned to our system and stored for the summer. If you have any questions, please contact your class teacher.
Thank you to all the parents who attended the workshop on 5 May. Around 17 parents turned up, representing almost a quarter of our families. During the workshop, we discussed curriculum organisation within the pathways, emphasising the importance of flexibility and personalisation for our learners.
Further curriculum information will be shared at the start of the next academic year.
The world is rich in diversity, which is reflected in the observances celebrated by its various cultures and populations. We hope that knowledge of the holidays and celebrations for diversity in this calendar can enhance our school's diversity and inclusion efforts.
